Jefferson College’s automotive technology program recently underwent a comprehensive program audit this spring by the national accrediting body Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) to determine the program’s compliance with national standards. As a result of the review, the Automotive Technology program received a full five-year reaccreditation. Professor Uhls says, “The reaccreditation of our automotive technology program proves that we teach at a very high level, which is important to Jefferson County employers and students looking for teachers who teach at the national level.”

Kathryn “Gus” Henley, a freshman majoring in automotive technology, was recently named the 2022 High School Regional Winner at the Breaking Missouri Traditions Awards.

Sponsored by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), the Breaking the Tradition Awards provide statewide recognition and awards to students, vocational programs, teachers and schools for their achievements in non-traditional careers gives the opportunity. Awards are given to students in non-traditional career/technical education occupations where individuals of the same gender make up less than 25 percent of the workforce in that field.

Recently, Toyota Corporation sent representatives and dealership service managers from Twin City Toyota and Weiss Toyota to Jefferson College to discuss Toyota training opportunities for students in the ASE-accredited Automotive Technology program. Students receive online training at Toyota in addition to courses offered at Jefferson College. After receiving the course package from Toyota, the student will be better prepared to enter the Toyota showroom. Toyota brought its latest Supra and Tundra models for the students to experience. On Nov. 13, more than 25 Jefferson College automotive technology students performed free oil changes for veterans. Students volunteered their time to greet veterans, change oil, search for parts, become a bay supervisor, dispatcher or store manager. Jefferson College students performed more than 40 oil changes on time for area veterans. Corporate sponsors included AutoZone, NAPA, Dobbs Auto Centers and Dominoes Pizza and helped make this event a success. Jefferson College staff were on hand to answer veterans’ questions about college options and assist with enrollment. The Nursing Department conducted blood pressure readings for all veterans. Shelby Mobley of Jefferson College was recently awarded a $1,000.00 car scholarship from MVACA (Midwest Auto Care Alliance). MVACA is comprised of professional automotive service owners and technicians who promote quality workmanship and professional standards throughout the Midwest. Shelbie is in the second year of our two-year accredited Automotive Technology program. Congratulations Shelby! The Associate in Automotive Technology program provides the entry-level skills necessary to enter and advance in the automotive service and repair industry. Automotive theories are based on extensive practical training in an active work environment. The automotive industry is in high demand for qualified technicians who have completed automotive training programs. Students can build on their education and experience to find work in management and supervisory roles. Many technicians with advanced skills eventually find employment with new car manufacturers or their suppliers or related businesses in the transportation industry.

Automotive Technology Degree
The Associate Degree in Automotive Technology is a 64 credit program*. Below is a typical semester overview of courses within the program.
* College 101 (10-890-165) is not part of the program’s credit requirements, but is a graduation requirement that must be passed with a grade of “C” or better. This requirement applies to students starting the program in spring 2021 and later.
The Associate in Automotive Technology program is accredited as a Master of Automotive Service Technician (MAST) program. The highest level automotive program achieved by the National Automotive Technical Education Foundation (NATEF).
All associate degrees are transferable to various programs at other partner colleges to allow you to continue your education in other fields of study.

The associate degree in automotive technology is designed to meet Wisconsin state certification criteria. However, it has not been decided whether the program is eligible for certification in states other than Wisconsin. Students seeking professional certification in states other than Wisconsin must contact the appropriate licensing board in that state to confirm that the program meets certification requirements.
