Today, kids are engulfed in advertisements promoting the latest beverages. This has made the beverage industry billions of dollars. However, these drinks are often full of sugar and empty calories.
As children grow, they drink more calories from sugary drinks. Children who do not drink water naturally drink more calories from sweet drinks such as soda.
By age 12, children who never drank water drank nearly 300 calories a day from sugary drinks. Considering that 1 pound of fat contains 3,500 calories, this extra intake can add up to many extra pounds per year.

Six-year-olds spend much more time moving than sitting. By the age of 12, children spend as much time sitting as they do moving, almost the opposite. Girls in particular are at risk of being too sedentary.
