Enter the domain name (field VPN hostname) of the machine you want to run on OpenVPN Enabler. This domain name must be publicly accessible from the Internet. Then click the Suggest IP Address button. If necessary, make custom changes to these IP address fields. Finally, click the Start OpenVPN button and that’s it. OpenVPN server (version 2.5.0) is running on your Mac.
After you click the Start OpenVPN button, you’ll see a profile called Client-1 is automatically created. You use this profile to set up the OpenVPN client.
Export this profile (click on its name and the button will be activated) and copy it to the OpenVPN client to establish a client-server connection. You can use the same profile for any number of clients (it’s not secure, but we start with it because it’s convenient).

Note. OpenVPN Enabler can also export the .ovpn file next to the .mobileconfig file in the selected directory. You can use this .ovpn file with any other OpenVPN client.
One if the client is an iOS device, without an extra step, connecting to an OpenVPN server from an iOS device is almost the same as what we did with the old Mojave Apple built-in VPN server. B. If the client is a Mac – now we need an app. The OpenVPN app for MacOS is very Windows-centric. So I wrote a Mac OpenVPN client and bundled it into the same app that enables the server. Use the same OpenVPN Enabler app on the target client’s Mac, but use the Clients tab. Drag the exported mobile config file to “OK” just below the Start OpenVPN Client button. Once the file is successfully downloaded, the OpenVPN client app will pull the client parameters from the profile and configure the VPN client. You are ready to press the Start OpenVPN Client button again.
If VPN is not turned on, your “real” IP address will be displayed – the network your Mac or iOS device is connected to. But if the VPN is on, it will show the IP address of the OpenVPN server. So on both the IOpenVPN server and the client you do the same thing: load checkip.dyndns.com. Compare the returned IP addresses – if they are the same, you have successfully connected to your VPN.

You can also try other machines on your local network where your VPN server is located. You ping using the local private IP address where the VPN server is turned on.
