The NetGear AC1200 performed subpar in most of our metrics, just slightly above average in our ease of use and 5 GHz. Throughput matrix. It performed particularly poorly at 2.4 GHz. The throughput metric, has a vague range, and is very light in terms of features. Overall, it wasn’t really impressive.
While this model ties with one of our award winners in terms of performance, the AC1200 lost out to the TP-Link Archer for the Best Buy award. Archer performed more consistently in both throughput metrics and retail and was rewarded.
Netgear R6100 100pas Ac1200 Dual Band R6100 Wi Fi Router
To determine which wireless router is truly the best, we bought all the best products on the market today and put them through an extensive series of tests divided into five weighted rating matrices. It is 2.4 GHz. Throughput, 5 GHz. Throughput, ease of use, range and features, the sections below describe how the AC1200 performed and how it compares to its contemporaries.
The indicator LEDs on this router are constantly lit, there is no way to dim or turn them off.
This metric is the most important, accounting for 25% of each router’s total score. We compiled a list of the most important features on these products, then assigned a score to determine how many of those features each router has. The AC1200 was somewhat disappointing, earning a 4 out of 10 for its efforts.
First, we looked to see if the router had beamforming and multiple-user, multi-output, multi-input (MU-MIMO) capabilities. Unfortunately, this router lacks both of these features, which significantly hurts its score. However, this router is wall mountable and supports IPv6 as well as having a wireless reset button. The LED light in this dual band router is always on, there is no way to dim it.
Netgear Nighthawk Ax8 8 Stream Ax6600 Wi Fi 6 Router Rax70
This router has a standard 4 Gigabit LAN port and a single 2.0 USB port. It also has the ability to host guest Wi-Fi networks and supports VPN.
This metric comes next, taking credit for 20% of the total score. We looked at how much effort was required in the unboxing and setup process, as well as the quality of the user interface, QoS and parental controls. The AC1200 scored a reasonably good 7 out of 10.
Not all routers we tested were difficult to install, although it was close. We found that the laptop would try to connect to other networks partway through the setup process and throw an error, so we forgot about any other networks. This router is essentially plug-and-play, allowing you to connect right away, leaving you to go back and set the network name, password, and admin login.
This router also requires a firmware update upon unboxing. The user interface is generic with a relatively dated design, but it still works if you’re not using Chrome as a browser. We liked the parental controls on the Netgear best, though they took a little more effort to set up. However, they offer you a very precise level of control in terms of filtering content by device and time.
The 5 Best Routers For A Large House (2022)
Setting up the guest network is fairly easy and QoS is about average, although the default list is a bit outdated. QoS refers to quality of service, which allows you to classify activities or devices based on priority.
This metric, like the previous one, makes up 20% of the total score. We evaluated each router’s throughput speed by running the iPerf3 test at 2.4 GHz. Network We scored each router on its performance in five different tests — short-distance blocking and line-of-sight, medium-distance blocking and line-of-sight, and long-distance blocking — to reduce the variability of the results from three trials. Average. in each test. The AC1200 fared poorly, earning a 3 out of 10 for its performance.
It started with one of the worst performances we’ve seen in both the short-distance Tests. It averaged 25 Mbit/s in the visual test and 28 Mbit/s in the blocked test.
This router didn’t fare much better in the medium distance tests, again scoring at the back of the pack with an average of 21 Mbit/s in the blocking test and 19 Mbit/s in the unblocking test. Surprisingly, it fared better in the long-distance test, as shown below.
Linksys Dual Band Ac1200 Wi Fi 5 Router Review: Hassle Free Surfing Experience At Rs 3,699
We repeated the previous metric testing process, this time running our iPerf3 tests at 5 GHz. Band This metric is also worth 20% of the total, with the AC1200 performing much better than before, earning a 6 out of 10.
This router started off with a strong performance in the short line-of-sight test, averaging 219 Mbit/s and averaging 192 Mbit/s in the blocking test, comparing quite favorably with the other routers in the test.
When tested at medium distances, the AC1200 performed averagely. This router averaged 201 Mbit/s in the line-of-white and 181 Mbit/s in the blocked test. Moving on to the long-distance tests, the AC1200 performed surprisingly well, as shown below.
Our range metric consists of only one test, which accounts for the remaining 15% of the total score. We streamed video to test laptops at various distances from the router and recorded when the video began to stutter or lag.
