It was like a DVD commercial, but I became my own beautifully packaged set of 4 CDs “The Great American Songbook”. I only took the trick because I love Rod Stewart. Lord does an excellent job of dubbing the Old Ladies in his own gruff style.

Not your typical concert, you can sit back, relax and enjoy. I couldn’t ask for better. The shaft is in good condition.

Top-Leute and Clive Davis, Richard Perry or Phil Ramone Worden as Producerten Angeheuert, Aber Heraus kam Nurain Langwelij, Seichtes, Dahin Plascherndes album. Rods Stimme und seine Persönlichkeit passen einfach nicht Richtig zu den romanceschen Klassikern der Sinatra-Zeit. Die Songs wurden allesamt besser aufgomenen, vor allen Dingen musikalisch high-quality, stimmlich glaubhafter. Immerhin leistete die Marketing-Abteilung seiner Plattenfirma ganze Arbeit und das Album läutete ein enormes back in den USA und Großbritannien ein (3x Platin in den Staaten).

Happy 72nd Birthday Rod Stewart

This is the first and last “Great American Songbook.” While Rod Stewart did well on songs like “These Fools,” “Should Be You,” and “Mangalore,” the album wasn’t particularly well made. Some arrangements are more established in pop culture, which automatically turns off jazz fans. Also, the album has a lot of sugar and sometimes it’s hard to listen to from start to finish.

I bought this album because I like the sound of Rod Stewart and I have some old stuff. I wanted to add this album to my collection and it was a big mistake. There are a lot of cover albums out there. Some are pretty good (see: “Ain’t I Your Girl?” by Sinead O’Connor or “Finally” by Cyndi Lauper), some are pretty bad (unfortunately, that’s the case here). Rod’s voice is always good (that’s why I give it one star), but the arrangement is too much for me. All songs are the same.

This is the end. This is a terrible joke. Rod Croner is no less. BMG has the guts to enhance this disc with copy protection. May I ask what is the point? Surely no one wants to record this embarrassing compilation, right? Conclusion: Blood is scary.

As a fan of Tin Pan Alley’s US pop charts, I was surprised when I heard a clip of the album on a humble Canadian radio station a year ago in May 2003.
