We love how the Outback looks and drives, and if you can get a model with EyeSight it’s one of the best safety systems in the field. Access to gauges and controls is simple and intuitive, and the driving position is comfortable for a wide range of drivers. Oh, and did we mention all-wheel drive comes as standard?
The RAV4 is one of the more basic SUVs on this list, but Toyota’s reliability is well known and it’s a solid SUV in terms of handling and handling. All-new to Hyundai’s lineup for 2018, the Kona comes in flashy color combinations that might appeal to teenagers with a good sense of style. It’s compact (read: easy to drive) and because it’s newer, it has newer tech, like standard Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It’s still an entry-level model, so the materials are robust rather than refined, but attractive nonetheless. You’ll probably want to start with the SEL trim, because that’s where the safety technology comes in.
