Trusting God Through The Storm – I remember when I was about 10 years old I had to answer a different phone at summer camp. I stood among my friends, clasping my hands with all my heart as a pledge and testimony of obedience to the Lord…

To surrender means “to give oneself up completely.” It is a process of submission to the power and will of God where we stop resisting and surrender to the power of our will, our purpose and the end of our lives. If we never meet in person, let me tell you about myself. Hello, my name is Jane and I am a gentleman! Plans are a safety net that keeps me strong and alive. Letting go is not easy for any of us, especially a Type A, Enneagram 8w7, boss like me.

Little 10-year-old Jane didn’t know what submission meant. My beautiful heart felt God’s call like a “finger through the tulips” as my husband likes to say. But there have been many storms. Every storm God has used to bring forth life, character, and endurance in me. Looking back I wouldn’t change a thing, but it wasn’t that easy. I am learning to trust God’s strength and will as I navigate the storms of life.

I recently added a daily chapter of Psalms and Proverbs to my morning time with Jesus. The wonderful imagery in Psalm 29 captured my heart this week, especially regarding trusting God in storms. In this chapter David reveals God’s power, might and power over water, nature, trees, mountains, fire and flood. He concludes with verses 10 and 11 that read…

No matter what we are going through in life right now, we can be encouraged to serve the God who sits above our storms. Nothing in heaven or earth has the power to interfere with His power and ultimate authority. He is king forever!

The promise that David mentions in verse 11 is that God will give strength and peace to his people in the storm. As we submit ourselves to His will and power (aka surrender), we can be sure that our God is in control. He did not abandon us or be surprised by our circumstances. He allows the storms in our lives to produce patience, patience produces trial, and trial produces hope (Romans 5:3b-4).

As you navigate the storms that are facing you, rest in the strength and comfort that God provides and trust in Him. Stay in His presence because He is faithful to restore, heal, and equip. Remember these verses and remind yourself that the King has power, authority, and control over all situations forever and ever. That’s true! Peace In The Midst Of Life’s Storms

Yet in this uncertain place, there is great hope that we can find the story of Jesus who calmed the storm.

The disciples spent the day listening to Jesus’ teachings, in which he told a parable about the sower – explaining that the seed represented the word of God. It is believed that Jesus may have been drawing from Isaiah 55 while he was teaching.

“Like the rain and the snow that comes down from heaven, and does not return there, and does not water the earth, and it grows and grows, and the sower has seed, white bread that eats. From my mouth.” “

I once heard an old preacher say that maybe the reason Jesus got angry with his disciples after he stopped the storm was because they had forgotten his words.

The fear they felt in the storm made them forget to trust his word, and his word was true. Jesus said,

Right now we are in a storm, and in the midst of it we need to remember God’s Word.
